10.00 – 10.45 The challenges of European recovery: can we build back better?
Securing an equal recovery for all member nations is the priority for the European Union, alongside a commitment to a Green Deal – building back better. The success of this regional recovery will require a massive collective effort from all 27 member states: but has the pandemic highlighted an even bigger divide between countries? We have seen unparalleled investment in the private sector from governments, but how can the public and private sectors collaborate in sectors such as technology to help achieve this vision of sustainable recovery? How can we ensure that investment in emerging technology and R&D isn’t ignored as we focus on short-term bounce-back? What policies and packages are the most essential to deliver a recovery that is truly sustainable, digital and inclusive?

11:15 – 12:00 The training model needed to transform our economy
What elements must professional training have in order to bring about a more continuous public-private collaboration? We have seen that in spite of the pandemic and the confinement, training has not stopped, thanks to the technologies it has been possible. How will the new Law of Vocational Training for Employment promote the use of technology? One of the most important factors in training is time, how are we all going to make everything flow faster? from the moment the training needs are known until the training actions are carried out, nowadays a lot of time passes, what can we do to remedy it? We need to generate a model of direct projects focused on training, and intersectoral movements, which cause an upskilling and an adaptive reskilling to technological opportunities.

10:00 - 11:10 The role of digital infrastructure in the recovery
Central to Europe’s recovery is digital infrastructure – increased and faster connectivity via 5G or fixed broadband. Enhanced connectivity has the potential to transform how European companies - from Europe’s largest to millions of SMEs - deliver products and services across a range of economic sectors from manufacturing to healthcare to agriculture. High-speed connectivity will provide a stable platform for innovation and economic growth, unlocking ecosystems and digitalising sectors such as energy, utilities, health, transportation, and agriculture, as well as transforming rural areas. First-class connectivity is of paramount importance, but secure and decentralised cloud infrastucture will also be the bedrock of Europe’s digital recovery. How can technology be used to transform industry verticals? What policies need to be in place to attract inward investment to Spain? What are the opportunities for new models of education, working, and healthcare? And how can we ensure strategic autonomy in cloud computing?

The global race to find a vaccine for the pandemic has demonstrated how emerging technologies and public-private sector investment can lead to huge competitive advances. As European industry, including energy, agriculture and manufacturing, undergoes a radical digital transformation, Europe’s competitiveness will depend on securing first-mover advantage in data-intensive technologies, such as AI, IoT, big data, and nano technology. What new technologies are ready for investment to upscale and take them to market quickly and efficiently?
